You could be the difference for a refugee community member striving to thrive in their new Pacific Northwest home.
Regular volunteer opportunities:
-
Core volunteers offer personalized support to the families they are partnered with, assisting with day-to-day needs. At the heart of PRSG's mission to build community, Cores play a pivotal role in bridging cultural and systemic gaps.
-
1:1 or group tutoring sessions in the following areas: Adult English Language Development (ELD), Academic or ELD support for K-12th-grade students, or other specified needs (e.g., GED)
The type of tutoring we can offer depends on our current tutors' availability, abilities, and comfort levels. Sessions can be conducted at the community member's home, in a public place (such as a library), at our office, virtually, or at the Welcome Center
-
We regularly assist families by assembling food, hygiene, and other essential boxes. Volunteer help and support is needed on a weekly basis.
-
Transport food/essentials boxes from food pantries or the PRSG office to community members' homes. Assist with transporting families from point A to B.
-
Promoting PRSG's mission by attending community events with or on behalf of PRSG. Answering questions about PRSG's initiatives, programs, and how individuals can get involved. Guide interested individuals on volunteering opportunities or donation processes. Lend a hand in the set-up and break-down of the event table and promotional materials.

Volunteer Spotlight.

My name is Aya Vitello and I am a stay at home mom of a 4 year old. I volunteered with PRSG to help with the #SeeNoStranger housing initiative. Every Monday, I deliver food boxes provided by the food pantry to refugee families who recently arrived in Oregon. One feeling I can name when reflecting on my experience is absolute joy!

My name is Kirsten Burt. I'm a mom who works for a translation company, and a long-time PRSG volunteer. I helped a family from Venezuela move into their new apartment as part of the #SeeNoStranger housing initiative, and then helped them find furniture. It was an easy way to help, and I felt a real connection with this young family. A week later, they invited me to their wedding!
