COMMUNITY EDUCATION.

Our Community Education program offers support services to the refugee community to increase access to each individual’s unique education and career goals, with a primary focus on English language skills, digital literacy, and professional certification.

How we can help:

K-12 Academic tutoring
  • PRSG collaborates with local schools to provide tutoring sessions aimed at helping children and youth excel academically. These sessions are flexible, offering homework assistance or targeted subject support, and can take place at the student's home, online, or even at the school itself. Volunteer tutors work closely with PRSG's Education Coordinator, parents, and teachers to ensure effective tutoring, emphasizing both academic improvement and social support to guide students on their educational paths.

  • PRSG offers private English tutoring sessions for refugees and asylum seekers, delivered by dedicated volunteer tutors. These sessions can take place in various locations, including the student's home, public spaces, PRSG's office, or virtually, and are tailored to meet each student's specific language learning goals. The program accommodates learners of all levels and focuses on enhancing skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, utilizing a range of engaging materials and resources.

  • As an official referral partner of WES, World Education Services (WES), a non-profit organization that conducts credential evaluations of international degrees.we offer individualized guidance sessions and long-term support for those needing their international credentials evaluated and recognized in the United States. This service includes a pre-screening meeting to discuss the individual's education background and career goals, support with submitting their credential evaluation applications, and follow-up guidance sessions to help them effectively use their evaluation reports to find employment or continue their education.

  • PRSG assists individuals seeking career pathway programs, classes, and trainings by offering personalized navigation support. This includes one-on-one sessions to discuss and align their goals with suitable programs, assistance with applications and registrations, and support for tasks like FAFSA applications, GED, and TOEFL exam registration. The overarching aim of this service is to empower refugee and asylum seeker communities to overcome educational barriers and progress towards their career and employment objectives.

Bridging the

Digital Divide:

One of our visions with the Digital Divide Program has been to conduct workshops and other learning opportunities through a community lens to ensure that we are bringing diverse and unique voices to this program. To achieve this, we have been collaborating with some of our wonderful community partners, including Portland Community College and Portland Youth Builders, as well as our dedicated group of volunteers, to lead workshops that cover topics related to their skills and expertise. We plan to continue leading this program with a community-centered lens throughout the year.

Meet Marwa, a dedicated student on a mission to make a difference in the world of mental health! Two years ago, she began her journey at Oregon State University's Master's Program for Counseling, where she's honing her skills and expertise.

Marwa's dream is to become a mental health professional, specializing as a multicultural counselor fluent in Arabic. Her passion lies in helping individuals overcome trauma and mental health challenges, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity in her services.

In her own words, Marwa aims to not only provide counseling but also to share her insights through blogging, breaking down stigma and fostering open conversations about mental health.

As she approaches her graduation, Marwa is steadfast in her goal of opening a private facility, where she can offer personalized and compassionate care to those in need.

Congratulations, Marwa!
