Welcoming Refugees To
|
The United States has a long tradition of offering refuge to those fleeing persecution and war. Oregon has always taken in refugees & immigrants from all over the world, and has been partaking in their aid and is determined to continue its efforts.
The Portland Refugee Support Group (PRSG) is dedicated to helping refugee families integrate into our society with ease and comfort, welcoming them with open arms and making them feel like family. |
“My husband was shot and almost killed in Syria and became a quadriplegic. We were resettled in the U.S. PRSG was a saving grace for us. It gave us community and people who helped us navigate a new life. It helped me identify the strengths I had inside me to learn English, learn how to drive, and to become a leader for other families who came after me.”

Communicare Grant Recognition Virtual Ceremony
PRSG is honored to have been selected as a 2020 @communicareor grant recipient by Madison High School’s Peace and Justice Club. With guidance from CommuniCare, these dedicated self-led students embarked on a year-long grant making process including researching community issues, raising funds, evaluating grant proposals, interviewing nonprofits, and ultimately deciding where funds would go. Watch students Jaya and Anna talk about their experience as grant-makers. Thank you for shining a spotlight on refugees! You can access the full CommuniCare virtual grant awards ceremony at communicareOR.org/ceremony/.

"I love the work that PRSG is doing for the local refugee community. They are constantly doing events like potlucks to bring everyone together and bring some normalcy to what can be hectic lives. I have also had the privilege of helping out at several food drives where PRSG sourced hundreds of pounds of meat donated from local stores. PRSG is making a massive impact in the community around them, not only to help them in the present, but to also help them on their way to self sufficiency so that they don’t need to rely on the system their whole lives."
